I’m redesigning my website. It’s been an on going design since 2004 and the one design project that I get frustrated with. The big problem is that I’m not really web savvy. I know the basics of Dreamweaver and that’s as far as I can take it. I’m laying everything out in Photoshop which is the long way to do it but for me it’s the only way I can keep things in place without it shifted and getting too complicated. The page I posted is a little hard to see against my blog background but I want to keep my site very simple and basic this time. I think the work should speak for itself.
Lately I have been enjoying websites that have a very simple, clean look to them. So mine will just have an off white background and the type face will be Arial. I’m giving myself until April 22nd to finish it. I have to give myself a week because I work full time and by the time I get home I really don’t feel like doing much design work. My job at the print shop will be ending in 42 more days. I will say goodbye to all my friends in Massachusetts on May 31st. I’ve enrolled myself into college and will start in the fall full time. I’m really excited and scared about getting back into school. I’m taking a few web design classes so I can get more acquainted with all the interactive programs and to hopefully begin doing web design. But most important, I will be able to update my website without it taking me 3 years.
So I’m following up with another postcard. I kept the same exact look but changed it slightly. I want it to be consistent so if people see it they know what it is right away. I think I’m also going to send some to the local businesses and cafes in the area. This is my first real stab at marketing so wish me luck.
The last couple weeks have been hectic and draining to the point where I really haven’t done anything creative. I have a weird shift where I work 12 to 8pm and by the time I get home I’m ready to crawl into bed. My days off are usually spent on road trips to Pennsylvania and when I’m there I don’t have any of my art supplies.
But today I relaxed in the morning and then I got to work designing a new self-promotion postcard. I want to come up with a few different designs so I can pass them around once I move back to PA. So here’s the first one and there will be a few more to come along.
So stay tuned!
